When to Change Transmission Fluid

transmissionYou can typically boost that range up to 60,000 to 100,000 miles. There’s no harm in changing your fluid early.

So what happens if you don’t change transmission fluid, you ask? Watch for these signs of trouble:

  1. Delayed Shifting. The transmission fluid has lost its pressure.
  2. Difficulty Shifting. A buildup of residue in the transmission fluid can cause the gears to change too fast, too slow, too abruptly, or too erratically. You may also hear grinding sounds or see unusually high RPMs before the gears shift.
  3. Slipping gears. If the friction material on the clutches and transmission bands cannot securely hold the gear in place, it can fall back out of that gear.
  4. Transmission Overheats. Pullover as soon as possible if you start to notice a burning smell or smokiness along with loss of power.

Changing your transmission fluid periodically will increase the lifespan of your transmission. On the other hand, if you never change it, you will have dirty and grimy fluid that will fail to lubricate and disperse heat very well.

When are your car repairs covered by car insurance?

Car insurance may help cover the cost of repairs if the issue is the result of a collision or another covered incident, such as theft or fire. But, repairs for routine wear and tear or mechanical breakdowns are typically not covered by an auto insurance policy.

Things Your Car Insurance May Not Cover

  • Natural disasters. Vehicle damage due to hail, flooding, or other types of severe weather isn’t covered under your state-minimum auto insurance policy.
  • Personal belongings inside your vehicle.
  • Commercial use.
  • Vehicle accessories.
  • Pet injuries.

What does a car insurance cover?

As the name implies, it covers pretty much everything, including you, your vehicle, your passengers and property, as well as that of any other party/parties. It will provide cover if your car is stolen, damaged or set on fire, and insure you to drive other vehicles. The level of cover varies between insurers, though.

How does car insurance work when you get into an accident?

After an accident, your insurance provider will try to recoup the costs of any repairs to your vehicle from the person whose fault it was. If they’re successful in getting back all of the costs, your claim will be recorded as a non-fault claim on your insurance history.

Will my car insurance increase after an accident?

The short answer unfortunately is yes. Regardless of whose fault it was, making a claim will almost always lead to an increase in your car insurance premium. Luckily a non-fault claim won’t affect it as much as an at-fault claim will.

Even if you don’t make a claim after an accident, you could still see an increase in your insurance premium.
